You will receive a bunch of hornwort (roughly 5 stems, like in the photos shown).
Roughly a small handful we include a foam leaded weight to secure stems.
AKA Rigid Hornwort
A native oxygenator, perfect for ponds and lakes. Hornwort is a free-floating plant, you can either separate the bunches and throw on the waters surface or push the weighted bunch into the soil. Hornwort can grow at great depths making it one of the best native oxygenators available. It has no roots with stems that grow from 30-90cm (1-3ft) that have delicate dense whorls of slender dark green leaves. It sinks to the bottom of the pond in winter to protect itself from the cold and ice and may turn black but as the water warms in the spring it will float back up and turn green again.

Hornwort is a favorite of many pond and aquarium owners for its oxygenating and anti-algae properties. Hornwort releases a specific combination of chemicals that damage competitive species in a process known as allelopathy. So far, scientists have found that hornwort can halt the growth harmful phytoplankton like blue-green algae and cyanobacteria. These organisms cause toxic blooms that can decrease dissolved oxygen content of the water, release noxious chemicals, and choke out natural plant and animal life.
